Stolen Joy

We had girls’ night last night. Always a good time:) Especially after yesterday. We had one of “those” days at our house. Fussy baby, time-out chair was used a couple of times, problems sharing, etc. You can picture it. And you probably also know how I feel. Satan always knows how to push our buttons. He always knows how to steal joy out of a precious situation.

Take pregnancy, for instance. I can’t count how many times I, or someone close to me, had their joy stolen during a pregnancy. You are plagued with fear for the baby. It’s hard to even enjoy it because with every cramp or pain you are panic stricken. Even the most laid-back of mothers struggle with sleepless, worried-filled nights. After pregnancy, comes the baby, and also comes a whole new set of fears. We worry about whether they have eaten enough, pooped enough, slept enough. We worry about their development. We worry about everything!

Satan is relentless. I can remember being pregnant and knowing that my fears were irrational. I knew that I wasn’t enjoying my experience like I should be. It’s not a simple thing to remedy. Even after prayer, it took a constant, and sometimes an audible reminder to lay my fears down. It makes me sad to think that I may have missed some precious moments in pregnancy and with my newborns because I let worry take over in my heart. What about you? Have you missed moments with your little bundle because of this?

Our joy and experience gets cheated when we spend time living in fear.

Here are a few things to hold onto if you find yourself in a place overcome by fear. Instead, be overwhelmed by what He has done in us and can do through us!

But I trust in you, Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hands…[Ps 31]

My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness…[2 Cor 12:9]

The one who calls you is faithful, and He will do it!…[1 Thess. 5:24]

And this from my pastor’s wife:

often it’s not the work, it’s the weight that wears us down
Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you…[1 peter 5:7]

Hope that helps you face moments of worry with confidence. I’d love to hear what helps you when you face fears.

Hannah
